‘You will’. Instead of ‘I will’

“The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, and He will show them His covenant.” Psalm 25,14 NKJV |
In the journey of discovering who God is and what He wants for our lives on an individual level, there comes the realization of a covenant: a covenant between God and a person.
Indeed, as believers in Jesus Christ, we are in a covenant relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
God, the Father, regards us through the lens of His Son and what He did on the cross. We are no longer separate from Christ but we are in Him. Furthermore, we have became God’s children and all these bring special relationship, access and privilege. The good things that come from salvation are for all believers who are aware and willing to believe in order to possess what is rightfully theirs.
Like it is written in the opening Scripture, the Lord confides in those who fear Him (NIV). God relates intimately with those who fear Him. When God has someone’s heart and the person has a humble posture of honoring His Word, His person and His majesty, it’s like God can now relate with them intimately. It’s like in a friendship, there has to be a sense of trust, acceptance and love for two people to have a close relationship.
Jesus said: “Do not give that which is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before pigs, for they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.” (Matthew 7,6 AMP)
What's a pearl to a pig? This metaphor shows that there are things (revelations) too valuable that wisdom requires that they be handled carefully. Proverbs 1,7 says: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
The advantage we have, as born again believers, is that we have the Holy Spirit in us to teach us everything. We are not guessing but by faith we believe that we receive from Him and have understanding.
Jesus said His sheep hear His voice and know His voice. (John 10,3-4).
The process of discovery and preparation is the opportunity to learn how to hear from God, how God speaks to us personally. This is the place where relationship with God is developed because fellowship with God is and should remain the uttermost thing, the most important thing even when having great responsibilities and demands.
“Then one of them said, “I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son.” Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Then the Lord said to Abraham, “Why did Sarah laugh and say, ‘Will I really have a child, now that I am old?’ Is anything too hard for the Lord? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son.” Genesis 18,10-14 NIV |
We have examples, in the Bible, in ancient times, of men with whom God made covenants. Men to whom God showed His covenant. There is one God called friend: Abraham, another one 'a man after His own heart': David.
By His grace, God appeared to Abraham: “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” (Genesis 15,5 NKJV) and God also told him that in him all the families of the earth will be blessed. Through Abraham all the peoples on earth will be blessed. (Genesis 12,3). God was calling Abraham to be part of His redemptive plan for mankind: to bring blessing instead of curse on the earth.
Same for David, “When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” (2 Samuel 7, 12-13) “And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever." (2 Samuel 4,16).
The seed God was telling Abraham and David was actually Jesus Christ (Matthew 1,1). And through Christ, we are also connected to Abraham and David; to the blessing and dominion of kingship.
One thing I would like you to notice, is that there is no human effort that could have fulfilled all these promises. God took it up upon Himself to fulfill all these promises. Which is also why they are referred to as covenants.
A covenant is a commitment to perform and to stay faithful to what was promised (vows) no matter what.
In this 'covenant revelation' that God does, there are things that are for us to do. But I want you to always remember, God is saying it because He wants to do it through you. Do not look at yourself. Don’t see commandments and say: “How will I do this?”. Instead hear the Lord Jesus say to you: “I WILL THROUGH YOU”.
When Sarah, Abraham's wife, heard that she would bear a son past childbearing age, she laughed. But the Angel said: "is anything too hard for the Lord?". I believe it is in this encounter that Sarah realized that it was not by her own capacity that she would bear this child but that it was God who wanted it to happen and would make it happen. And it’s in this moment that she received strength to conceive! (Hebrews 11,11)
“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.”
Beloved of God, the spoken word of God carries power. Your part is to believe God, to believe His Word and to believe it to the end. With all perseverance, keep God’s covenant in your heart, hold fast to His promises. God is committed, He will finish what He started. He will guide you in what to do. God will accomplish.
“So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty. “What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring out the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!’” Zechariah 4,6-7 (NIV) |
