God is serious

This is the genealogy of Jesus the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:” Matthew 1,1 NIV

In this article, I would like us to contemplate on how much God is love, committed and faithful.

After hundreds of years, the promises God made to Abraham and David were totally fulfilled: Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus' coming on earth was the fulfillment of God’s so longed plan of restoring dominion and blessing to mankind.

What an honor for David to have the Son of the living God be called his son, the son of David!

What an honor for Abraham to have the seed of God come through his lineage!

All this happened because God made covenants with these two men. These covenants were beyond themselves. And the effects of these covenants still resonate today and will continue to do so throughout eternity.

  • When God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, Abraham did not withhold him but offered him up. Nonetheless, God stopped him before he could kill him. And because of that, God swore and said (among other things): “In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice” (Genesis 22,18)

"The promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. Scripture does not say “and to seeds,” meaning many people, but “and to your seed,” meaning one person, who is Christ." (Galatians 3,16 NIV)

  • God told David: “And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before Me. Your throne shall be established forever.” (2 Samuel 7,16)

The prophet Daniel had a vision of this eternal kingdom and throne: “I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.” (Daniel 7,13-14)

God’s dreams are way bigger than any human being’s dream. But His dreams are still about human beings; they concern mankind.

Jesus could not come on earth through the physical seed of any man, that would have made Him like any other human being and that would have made Him a sinner by nature. However, Joseph, the husband of Mary is counted in the genealogy of Jesus.

When an angel of the Lord told Joseph: “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1, 20-21), Joseph obeyed God and took responsibility for Jesus and Jesus was in his house. (We can see fatherhood here in another dimension, other than biological)

“I make known the end from the beginning, from ancient times, what is still to come. I say, ‘My purpose will stand, and I will do all that I please.’ From the east I summon a bird of prey; from a far-off land, a man to fulfill my purpose. What I have said, that I will bring about; what I have planned, that I will do.”

Isaiah 46,10-11 (NIV)

When circumstances, adverse to the promises of God, rage from left to right, doubt wants to creep in the heart of the believer. To the point where, a person can begin to doubt whether they were led by the Holy Spirit or whether they made things up.

However, faith requires fighting. The apostle Paul called it the "good fight of faith".

“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: “For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; But if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” (Hebrews 10,35-39 NKJV)

Abraham saw his son Isaac whom God had promised him. David had his son Solomon succeed him on the throne. These great patriarchs fulfilled God’s purposes in their generations.

Proverbs 10,22 says: “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.”  Yes, the blessing of God is life – forevermore. It is life in all aspects: spiritual, emotional, physical, material, social, etc.

Beyond being blessed, God’s mind for every child of His is to be a blessing.

And this is coming from God, this is the will of God. He is the one who created this life. He desires it for everyone dearly. Jesus said: “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” (Luke 12,32)

“We love Him because He first loved us.” 1 John 4,19 (NKJV)
