“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4,14-16 (NKJV) |
Jesus existed before He was born on earth. In fact, it’s only when He was born that He was named Jesus (Luke 1,31). Who was He before then?
John wrote of Him: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1,1 NKJV). He went on to say: “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1,14 NKJV)
Jesus is the Messiah, the Christ that was foretold by the prophets. Messiah and Christ mean the same thing: The Anointed One. Messiah is derived from the Hebrew language and Christ from the Greek. There were many anointed people in the Old Testament: priests, kings, etc. They did great and mighty things, beyond human capacity. But there was one particular anointed man that was to come with a specific mark and a specific mandate: He was referred to as THE Anointed.
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61,1-3 (NKJV) |
In the Scripture above, Isaiah was prophesying about the Messiah/the Christ revealing His mandate.
It is these same words that Jesus read at the beginning of His public ministry and said: “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4,17-21)
In the Bible, individuals were anointed with oil as a mark of consecration, appointment and empowerment.
It was a physical expression of a spiritual reality. The anointing is the Holy Spirit upon a person. God anointed Jesus with the Holy Spirit (Acts 10,38) after being baptized by John: “It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan. And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (Mark 1,9-11 NKJV)
Jesus was the Word at creation (John 1,2-3). Before birth on earth, He was present and referred to in various ways in the Bible: He was the rock from which the children of Israel drunk water (Exodus 17,5-6), He was the fourth man in the fire with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego (Daniel 3, 24-25), He was The Angel of the Lord that appeared to Abraham (Genesis 22,11), to Moses (Exodus 3,2), etc.
There is so much to the person of Jesus, the Christ, the Son of the living God, the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22,13).
All these truths are to be revealed to a person's mind, heart and spirit; light-bulb moments.
The vastness of God should never be overwhelming in a negative sense (discouraging).
But it should be exciting! Because it is given to the believer to know the mysteries of the Kingdom (Luke 8,10)
Pray for the revelation of Jesus Christ. It will make a huge difference in your life, because there is a grace that comes at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
“I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers; [I always pray] that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may grant you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation [that gives you a deep and personal and intimate insight] into the true knowledge of Him [for we know the Father through the Son]” Ephesians 1,16-17 (AMP) |
