“Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name.” Psalm 91,14 NKJV |
There was a king of Assyria called Sennacherib. He attacked all the fortified cities of the kingdom of Judah and captured them. He later sent messengers to King Hezekiah of Judah in Jerusalem, to basically tell him to surrender to his authority. Sennacherib came in such an arrogant way even claiming that “the Lord” said to him: ‘Go up against this land, and destroy it’. Sennacherib’s messenger called out with a loud voice for everyone to hear, not just Hezekiah’s servants, that they are simply helpless. But the people kept silent and did not answer a word.
“Thus you shall speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying: ‘Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you, saying, “Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.” Look! You have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by utterly destroying them; and shall you be delivered? Have the gods
of the nations delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, Gozan and Haran and Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar? Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?’ ” Isaiah 37,10-13 NKJV
When Hezekiah received this news, he went before God and pour out this whole situation to Him.
God came through. The angel of the LORD went out and put to death 185,000 men in the Assyrian Camp. The next morning, they were all dead bodies and Sennacherib, king of Assyria, retreated. He later died killed by his own sons. [This story is found in the book of Isaiah, chapters 36 and 37]
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.” John 15,16 NKJV |
Sennacherib had argued that other nations had fallen under the Assyrians’ hands and therefore Judah would also fall, that those nations also had their ‘gods’. But the only difference is that Judah was not just any other nation and their God was not a ‘god’ made with human hands.
Child of God, I want you to know or remember that your story is different from the world’s.
What people have experienced in life, the limitations of the world systems do not apply to you. You are not OF the world (John 17,16).
Human logic and reason may sound correct but as a born again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, the truth of God is your compass.
It is unfortunate that, in this present world, people experience bad things. However, other people’s trauma should never dissuade you from believing God.
Remember that you are under covenant. You have a God. Your God is the true and only God. Your relationship with Him is covenant based, meaning God is committed to you, He will never give up on you.
The experiences of the world do not change the Word of God, they do not change who God is.
What God says about you, what He promised you, what He has made you is what is. There is no reason to give in to ‘Sennacherib’. You can trust your God because He is a dependable God.
“Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.” Isaiah 43,4 NIV |
